Interventional Radiology
Service Description
Interventional radiology (IR) is the subspecialty of radiology that uses imaging to perform minimally invasive procedures. Often the goal is to diagnose and treat illnesses before a surgery is necessary, or to help lead to a successful outcome if surgery is required. Interventional radiologists use small needles and catheters (tubes) to diagnose and/or treat diseases that affect the body's organs and vessels. The full spectrum of interventional radiology is performed at SWMC.
